Scindapsis Silver Satin

Scindapsus pictus—commonly called satin pothos, silver pothos, or silver vine—is a species of flowering plant in the aroid or arum family, Araceae, native to Bangladesh, Borneo, India, Java, Peninsular Malaysia, the Philippines, Sulawesi, Sumatra, Taiwan and Thailand.

  • What kind of light does my Silver Satin need? Bright, indirect light is ideal. Avoid direct sunlight, which can burn the leaves.

  • How often should I water it? Allow the top 1-2 inches of soil to dry out between waterings. Scindapsis are prone to root rot if overwatered.

  • What temperature range is best? 18°C - 27°C (65°F - 80°F).

  • How do I fertilize it? Use seaweed liquid weekly/fortnightly or seaweed granules/alfalfa monthly/bi-monthly during the growing season (spring/summer). Reduce feeding in the fall and winter.

  • Why are the leaves turning yellow? Overwatering is the most common cause. Ensure good drainage.

  • Why are the leaves losing their silver markings? Insufficient light. Move to a brighter location, but still avoid direct sun.

  • How do I propagate it? Stem cuttings are the easiest method. Place cuttings in water or directly into moist potting mix.

  • Is the Scindapsis Silver Satin safe for pets? No, it is considered toxic to pets if ingested.
